Let me say firstly that the Pozible staff have a beautiful office – even moreso when it is filled with the smells of beautiful vegan Szechuan food from Shu and the voices of amazing talented people getting to know each other over a glass or two of Jen Pfeiffer’s amazing wine (I don’t say that lightly, I’ve been drinking Jen’s wine since I first stumbled upon it many a year ago through Naked Wines).
I started off being a little intimidated by all the superb minds all in one room, but everyone was ridiculously lovely and talkative. It was a great challenge getting the conversation to stop so everyone could sit down and start eating our amazing food from Shu- beautiful salads, eggplant rolls, tofu and rice with some of the tastiest broccoli I’ve eaten lately. It was a wobbly ride home because I was completely full of wine and tasty food.
I spent the evening in awe of everyone, chatting to designers, communications experts, Logie winners, producers, directors… little ol’ me felt a little intimidated but also completely inspired to go out and do great things like everyone else. I’d like to give a special shout out to Dr. Deb Verhoeven, who not only gave our poor door-prizeless table her hard won bottle of muscat, but also had us all laughing and thinking as she walked us through the history of the Academy Awards. Half as many women will thrust their award up into the air as men are wont to do, whereas most will clutch politely and graciously at it, before thanking everyone in the world, mainly Meryl Streep. Also, Meryl Streep gets mentioned more during speeches than God does. I want you to think about that for a hot second.
We fabricated our own fill-in-the-blank Oscar speeches, which just about had us all in stitches, and there were many empty wine bottles being thrust up as statuette stand ins.
I can’t thank Scribble Creative enough for making an event like this happen – a night full of inspiring conversation with amazing creative women is not something any of us get to experience often enough.
